Transracial Panel for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month

The term "transracial" is known by adoptees and scholars to describe the situation when a child of color is adopted into an all-white family. Some Asian American adoptees are working to reclaim their lost cultural background.

Transracial Panel on April 26, from 4 – 5 p.m. in Bowen-Thompson Student Union Room 316 as part of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. Rachel Dolezal made the term “transracial” into common parlance when she was outed as a white woman pretending to be black. However, transracial is known by adoptees and scholars to describe the situation when a child of color is adopted into an all-white family. Meghan McKinley and Hayley Harleman will bring their personal perspectives to what transracial means.
